Statement of Fact or Statement of Opinion?? Today we looked at how to write a strong opinion piece that is supported by facts, statistics and examples. We tried to get some silent reading done but people kept TALKING!!! Come on people... We'll try again next week. Have an awesome weekend!

We started off with 20 questions and gumballs for prizes(thanks to a persistent student!!) Today's work was getting used to using APA format for final documents and writing an opinion paragraph about whether or not charity is worthwhile. Everyone worked really well today and most people got their paragraphs in by the bell. Way to go!!

It was chilly but everyone was really patient in getting out on the field and waiting for the "return to class" bell. Thanks to everyone who finished their expository paragraph on Nelson Mandela. We are going to move on to a new story tomorrow. If time we might get a chance to play "wink"!

It has been a great two weeks in English class so far. Just about everyone is keeping up to date with the work and it has been fun getting to know everyone with our ice-breakers. Please remember to keep the cell phones off and away.

Came up with a great idea to pick two inspirational songs and have students write an opinion paragraph about the one they liked the best. Little did I know that I had only heard the clean version of Hedley's song. Oops. Looking forward to reading the paragraphs tomorrow. I think we "get" apostrophes now after going through a powerpoint and video. Now let's us them on in our work correctly. Enjoy the sunshine everyone!

It is a hot one out today but we still managed to get some work done. Apostrophes appear to be a bit of a challenge but we will keep working on it. Everyone should have handed in the Nic Vujicic paragraph today. Tomorrow we are on to something new!

We started off with a bit of an icebreaker about people who had overcome obstacles and achieved fame. Somehow Michael Jordan was missed in our discussion. He was actually cut from his High School basketball team...oops! Then the class worked really well on the Nic Vujicic article and most were able to hand in a good paragraph response. Way to start off the week!

Well, we ended the first week with a trip to the library to get an independent reading novel, a survey that revealed our love of chocolate chip cookies and a look at a man who has overcome great odds in his life.  Have a great weekend everyone!
